GENERAL LITERATURE AND SCIENCE 79 of the Department of General Literature and Science who shall have completed not less than one term and not more than nine terms' attendance in the College at the date of competition It is to be held for one year if the Scholar shall remain Matriculated Student or become an Associate of King's Col- lege London or if he shall pursue his studies at the Univer- sities of Oxford Cambridge or Durham No Student can be elected to this Scholarship more than twice The Examination will take place at such period in the Lent or Easter Term as the Professor and Lecturer in English Literature and Science shall with the sanction of the Principal direct and will consist of papers of questions upon Modern History and English Literature at the discretion of the said Professor and Lecturer The next Examination for this Scholarship will take place on Saturday May 31 1856 The names of all Candidates must be given to the Principal in person or by letter before one o'clock on Monday May 19 1856 after which hour no name will be received The following will be the subjects of examination The Reign of Charlemagne The Norman Conquest The Essays of Sir Francis Bacon illustrating the life and times of the writer Dibinttfi £rf 01arsijip One of £30 in each year held for year This Scholarship is open to all Matriculated Students not being Associates and not belonging to the Theological De- partment of King's College who have completed three and not exceeded nine Terms The next Examination will take place on Wednesday May 28 1856 in the following subjects
