54 THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT from English into Latin An acquaintance with the elements of Hebrew is also desirable and will at no distant period be required The choice of books to be brought up for the Greek and Latin examination is to be made from the following list Homer -Books II III ן Cicero De Finibus One Greek Tragedy Cjesar -" De Bello Gallico Three Herodotus -Book II or any two Books other Books Sallust Thucydides -One Book Livy -Two Books Xenophon -" Cyropsedia Books Tacitus De Moribus German- II III orum and Agricola "Anabasis Books Virgil -Three Books of the jEneid II III or the Georgics Cicero -" De Officiis Horace -The Odes the Satires or --" De Natura Deorum the Epistles After passing this examination Candidates for admission must obtain the recommendation of Bishop The days fixed for this examination in the Academical Year 1855-6 are Wednesday October January 23 and April Section IV PERIOD OF STUDY Persons already in Deacons' Orders desirous of preparing themselves as Candidates for Priests' Orders as well as Graduates of Oxford Cambridge and Durham are admitted to attend the Theological Course for such length of time as they may desire II In the case of all others the Course is continued at the very leant during six entire terms two years Section general rules It is expected that all Students will attend the Chapel Service morning and evening daily II Certain books and subjects named by the Professors must be read during the vacations
