92 applied sciences interest of the pupils to give them due sense of the import- ance of the studies to which their attention is directed and to fix in their recollection the mechanical know ledge they acquire VI Land Surveying and Levelling First Year men attend in Easter Term Second Lent Third Michaelmas The hours of attendance are at the College from Two to Three o'clock on Friday and in the field from Ten to Four on Saturday The last Two Thursdays in October and the first Thursday in December are devoted to Levelling in lieu of the last Three Saturdays in November This course comprises Railway surveying both by the Chain and heodolite levelling in all its branches running out Rail- way curves staking out the line for the contractors calcu- lating the cuttings and embankments It is strictly practical the Students are actually engaged in field operations which by the kindness of several noblemen and gentlemen in the neighbourhood of London who have given them access to their grounds they are enabled to carry on extensively The opportunities hereby offered are such as with fair dili- gence and application will qualify Students to undertake at the end of their course whatever Railway surveying may olier itself VII Geometrical Drawing Comprehending the principles and practice of all graphical constructions used in the Arts either by the Architect Civil or Military Engineer Artist or Workman Subjects for each Year and Hours of Lecture First Year Quarter-past 11 on Mondays and Tuesdays during the Term -Constructions in Plank Geometry to familiarise the Student with the use of his instruments practice in drawing elementary parts of buildings machines &c tinting and shading plane surfaces Second Year Quarter-past 10 Mondays and Tuesdays
