ANNUAL REPORT 1854 43 At Cambridge William Henry Brown Classical and Mathc- iv atical Scholar of King's College School in 1847 was 10th in the list of Wranglers and the only First-Class man amongst the Commencing Bachelors in the Natural Sciences Tripos" being distinguished in the five subjects of Geology Mine- ralogy Comparative Anatomy Botany and Physiology Thomas Grabham was 33d Wrangler Burford Waring Gibsone was first in the First Class of Middle Bachelors in the Natural Sciences Tripos and Frederick Gard Fleay was second in the First Class of the Moral Sciences Tripos and first in the Second Class of the Natural Sciences Tripos In the University of London Henry Fawcett and James Heath appeared in the list of Mathematical Honours James Heath received an Exhibition and George Wallington Grabham took Honours in Classics George II Ord has been elected Scholar in Anatomy and Chemistry at St Thomas's Hospital The Rev Thomas Markby Master of the Lower Sixth having resigned his office upon being elected Head Master of the St John's Wood Proprietary School has been elected an Honorary Fellow The Rev llevwood has been transferred from the Fifth to the thus vacated class and the Rev Charles Underwood Dasent has been elected Master of the Fifth Class in his room Mr llann after seventeen years' faithful service has resigned his office of Mathematical Master in the School The vacancy will be supplied immediately Having now given an account of the existing Departments of the College the Council have once more the satisfaction of announcing an important addition to its means of usefulness It has long been evident that those professions which are distinctly called learned arc in this country overstocked and that large number of young men belonging to the upper and middle classes are compelled to seek employment in other Since this Report was presented George Roberts Smalley Esq of St 'Joints College Cambridge Β Α has been elected to this olfice
