annual report 1853 43 as they can now see sum of more than about 000 over the probable cost of the Land the Act of Parliament and the execution of the first Contract The following is brief statement of their present position Contract No -Amount of Tender £19 130 Add 10 per Cent for Contingencies 910 £21 040 Cost of Earthwork Clerk of the Works 750 Cost of Land 20 650 Act of Parliament 970 Preliminary Building Expenses-Plans &c 473 Sundry Disbursements including the laying the Foundation Stone 157 Interest on Loans 1G0 Architect's Commission &c 000 Fittings &c 500 £46 700 Leaving about 000Z in hand out of the sum of 49 744 collected for the building up to the present time The Tender for Contract No proposed to be executed next in order amounts to 18 254 The Tender for Contract No amounts to 307 and this without reckoning the cost of Contingencies or Architect's Commission The Court will thus see that the execution of the remaining portions of the Building must be wholly dependent on continuance of those exertions to raise funds by which so much has already been effected This subject is com- mended to the earnest consideration of the friends of the sick poor and of the promoters of medical education Is it impossible to hope that some noble- minded individual may be found willing to come forward and by undertaking himself the remaining two wings of this long-desired and greatly-needed Institution secure for himself the blessings of thousands of his fellow- creatures and emulate the fame of the founders of the magnificent ancient hospitals already existing in this metropolis The Council will now speak on the subject of King's College School The Head Master reports that no instance has occurred during the past year at all derogatory to the character of the School for regular and orderly conduct and steady attention to all branches of study The numbers in attendance which at this period of last year had somewhat diminished have again increased and this present term has witnessed the largest admission of new Pupils that has ever been known at one time viz 99 During the past year the following University distinctions have been gained by Pupils of the Classical Division
