ANNUAL REPORT 18 41 It will consist on the basement story 14 feet high of two waiting-hall each 84 feet inches square for male and female medical and male and female surgical patients clerks5 office closets &c steam-engine room the engine being intended to supply water for the warm baths to charge the cold- water cisterns to work the lifts and perform all laboratory processes On the ground story 14 feet high communicating by iron stairs with the basement story will be two smaller waiting-rooms into wliirh the patients arc to be drafted so as to be opposite to the physicians5 the physician- accoucheurs5 and the surgeons5 rooms and surgeries and next adjoining to these will be the exit-hall at the eastern end of which will be found the dis- pensary where having received their medicines &c they pass out of the building by another door without retracing their steps or mingling with new comers From the ground story of the Out-patient department there will be private staircase to the operating theatre for readier access than could be had by the principal staircase The operating theatre and Chapel with their connected rooms are to form the upper story of the Out-patient department and arc on the level of the first story of the hospital proper The theatre will be 35 feet square and 22 feet inches high and capable of containing 300 pupils The Chapel will be of the same size as the theatre viz 35 feet square and 22 feet inches high to the general line of the ceiling which will be formed into compartments the central one being coved and formed into dome The Communion-table will be recessed feet or thereabouts The style of the Chapel will be Cinque Cento and is so designed as to be effective by the simplest treatment at present intended but it is capable of being carried out with any degree of enrichment that may hereafter be desired The post-mortem theatre will be on the ground story and is 23 feet inches by 17 feet and lfi feet inches high The Carey Street portion of the building now about to be built will embrace On the basement which is 14 feet high residences for the Dispenser aud House Steward laboratory servants5 dining-ball &c On the ground story also 14 feet high an Accident Vl'ard for thirteen males 70 feet by 24 house dining-room dispensary &c and nursed rooms with all requisite conveniences On the first second and third stories each 15 feet high two wards on each story for thirteen beds 70 feet by 24 with bath-rooms scul- leries &c
