annual report 1853 deviating course of uprightness and love of the truth as light by the Church of England and by an earnest desire to raise the education in its highest sense of the Medical Student he has been surpassed by none in the diligent and habitual investigation of all branches of professional learning and in the candid examination of the merits of every new opinion and discovery The Council are glad to be able to add that acceding to their wishes Dr Todd will still hold the important post of Physician to the Hospital and as such will continue member of the Medical Staff of the College At one time there was reason to believe that Dr Todd's lis- tinguished colleague Professor William Bowman would have been able to undertake the whole duties of this Chair but increasing demands upon his time occasioned by great success in the more practical part of his profession have frustrated this expectation and Dr Todd's vacancy has not yet been filled up λίτ William Thompson having resigned the post of Curator to the Museums of Anatomy that office will not be filled up The Council cannot refrain from congratulating the Court upon the fact that the measures which have often been referred to with reference to King College Hospital are ηολν in active progress It is confidently expected that by the end of the present year one-third at least of the new building will be fit for occupation The Court of Governors and Proprietors of this College are so much interested in this building by reason of its bearing on their Medical School and have given such munificent proof of their zeal for its welfare by their grant of £5 000 in aid of the work that the Council believe they will not be sorry to read the following extracts from the report of the Building Committee issued on the 24th of February last -Τπε Site Under the clauses of "The King's College Hospital Act 1851 the greater portion of the land required for the site of the New Building has been secured and cleared from the old houses standing thereou The only remaining portion of land to he obtained for the actual building is the site of
