r ANNUAL REPORT 1S52 27 tunity of gratefully acknowledging the very great care and at- tention bestowed on these details by several members of the Committee of Management The close and intimate connexion now established between the two bodies gives rise to the hope that the Governors and Proprietors of the College seeing how materially the efficiency of their School of Medicine is increased by this measure will take care that the Annual Funds of the Plospital are equal to the support of the increased number of Patients which it is proposed to admit in the new building The Council deeply regret to state that the income at present at the disposal of the Committee of Management is wholly inadequate Several Pupils of the Medical Department of the College have distinguished themselves in the past year beyond the walls of the Institution Mr Edward Abraham Hancock Head obtained the Gold Medal and Scholarship in Surgery at the examination for the Degree of Μ at the University of London and Mr David Henry Monckton the Gold Medal for Physiology and Comparative Anatomy At the same examination Mr George May and Mr William Edward Robbs were in the class of honours At the Matriculation Examina- tion Mr James Howard Thornton and Mr William Cattell were in the class of honours the first in Zoology the second in Chemistry Mr Edward Dowson who has just obtained the Second Year Scholarship for 1852 also succeeded in carrying off the Prize in Botany given by the Society of Apothecaries The Council have great pleasure in noticing the fact that for nine successive years this prize the only Botanical Prize given in London which is open to Students from all Colleges has been awarded to Students of King's College most gratifying event of this year is the selection of Mr Francis Nottidge Macnamara highly distinguished Scholar of this College to fill valuable appointment in the Medical Service of the Hon East India Company which was placed at the disposal of the Committee of Management of King's College Hospital by Plowden Esq
