174 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT Glasgow Aberdeen or Manchester for two years subsequently to the age of eighteen in which the average number of patients is not less than 150 Tlmt they have been engaged in actual dissections of the human body twelve months the certificate of which from the teacher must state the number of subjects or parts dissected by the candidate That they have attended lectures &c on the following subjects at established schools of eminence by physicians or surgeons of the recognised Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons in the United Kingdom for periods not less than hereinunder stated observing however that such lectures will not be admitted if the teacher shall lecture on more than one branch of science or if the lectures on anatomy surgery and medicine be not attended during three distinct winter sessions of six months each Anatomy or General Anatomy 12 months and Comparative Anatomy months 18 months Surgery or General Surgery 12 months and Military Surgery months 18 Theory and Practice of Medicine 18 Clinical Lectures on Surgery Clinical Lectures on Medicine Chemistry or Lectures on Chemistry months and Prac- tical Chemistry months Materia Medica Midwifery Botany or General Botany months and Medical Botany months VIII REGULATIONS OE THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT ΟΪ THE EAST-INDIA COMPANY'S SERVICE The Assistant Surgeon must not bo under Twenty-two Years Upon receiving Nomination he will be furnished with Letter to the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons to be examined iu Surgery and their Certificate will be deemed satisfactory testimonial of his qualification but should he be previously in possession of Diploma from the Royal College of Surgeons of London or of the Colleges of Surgeons of Dublin or Edinburgh or of the College and University of Glasgow or of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow either of them will be deemed satisfactory as to his knowledge of Surgery without any further examination He is also required to produce Certificate from the Cupper of Public Hospital in London of having acquired and being capable of practising with proper dexterity the art of Cupping The Assistant Surgeon will also be required to pass an Examination by the
