11G MEDICAL DEPARTMENT It is hardly necessary to repeat in the present Report that the reputation of the Hospital has been maintained by the fame of its Professors and the efficiency and zeal of all its Medical Oflicers and that the Medical School continues to support that high position among those of this metropolis In connexion with this subject the Committee have much pleasure in acknow- ledging the great compliment lately paid to this Hospital generally and to the Medical School in particular by "W Plowden Esq by his kind presen- tation to this Institution of the appointment of an Assistant-Surgeon in the East India Company service The Committee have much pleasure in informing the Governors that the valuable and most efficient services of the Building and Endowment Fund Committee to whom this Institution is already so much indebted will he con- tinued They have transmitted to this Committee their Annual Report for the past year and it is now submitted to the Court See below The Committee feel it matter of great congratulation to the Governors as well as the public at large to be enabled to inform them that they have now paid for and taken possession of under the recent Act of Parliament the burial-ground adjoining the Hospital that ground from henceforth will never again be used for interment but will be kept as an open space for the purposes of the Hospital The Committee have further to announce that the Council of King5s College have under the recommendation of this Committee created new medical office that of Physician-Accoucheurs Assistant The office to be conducted to appointment and otherwise on similar terms to those of the Physician's Assistant and House Surgeon The Governors may judge of the importance and necessity for this office when they are informed that there are about five hundred of midwifery cases annually on the list Report frem the Building and Endowment Committee The Committee for conducting the Building and Endowment Fund of King's College Hospital have much pleasure in submitting to their friends the following Report of their proceedings up to December 31 1851 embracing period of somewhat more than two years and six months from the date of tlu ir first meeting June 13 1819 -TitE Site of the New Hospital It will be remembered that the design of the Committee has been to obtain possession of the Portugal Street Burial Ground the freehold of the present Hospital and all the property from Portugal Street along Carey Street south- ward to Grange Court and thence westward to Clement's Lane consider- able portion of this property has already been purchased and under the provisions of the Act of Parliament it is expected that the whole will be
