108 medical department out their bearings on Physiological Science as well as on the practice of their profession The operations of Surgery may be performed here on the dead body during the summer months III Physiology General and Morbid Anatomy The Course commences with general view of the dis- tinctive Properties of Animals as contrasted with Plants of the elementary and proximate Principles of Animal Bodies of their various Functions and of the Tissues and Organs by the Agency of which those Functions are carried on The particular consideration of each function is then pro- ceeded with and the Anatomy of each Texture or Organ engaged is minutely described These Lectures have special reference to that knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology which is essential to the Practitioner in Medicine They are illustrated by recent Dissections by Preparations and Diagrams of parts in Human and Com- parative Anatomy by Experiments and by Microscopical Observations From the great extent of the subjects treated in this Course some of them are discussed only in alternate years IV Chemistry An extensive Philosophical Apparatus Mineralogical and Metallurgical Collections valuable Chemical Museum and complete Laboratory are attached to the Chemical Department The Course is divided into two Parts Part comprises preparatory view of the Forces which concur in the production of Chemical Phenomena with de- scription of the Elementary Bodies and Inorganic Compounds This division of the Course which occupies from the begin- ning of October to the end of December is specially adapted to the Matriculation Examination of the University of London and may be attended separately Part II Current Affinity and its Associated Forces
