26 ANNUAL ILEPOliX 1851 amount to £33 230 55 9d leaving £ 16 769 14s 3d still to be raised The Freehold of the present Hospital and of several surrounding houses and premises has been purchased at heavy expense and this with the necessary cost of acquiring other property and the completion of an edifice worthy of the established reputation and increasing usefulness of the Hospital and worthy of its connexion with King's College will exhaust the whole amount originally contemplated The Council earnestly entreat the Proprietors of King's College to support the exertions of the Building Fund Committee in raising the means for putting this most important Institution on an enlarged and permanent basis Its importance to the Medical School cannot be over estimated It has been found necessary in order to procure powers for purchasing and securely holding the property required for the site and for other purposes to apply for an act of Parlia- ment It is proposed that the Members of the Council and the President Vice-Presidents and Governors of the Hospital shall be incorporated its property settled and its charitable purposes and essential connexion with King's College declared and secured The attention of the Council has for some months past been engaged in conjunction with the Committee of Management in the careful consideration of the clauses of the proposed Act which there is every ground for hoping will be passed in the present Session of Parliament The Students sent forth from the Military Department have been uniformly successful in their examinations at Sandhurst and some have highly distinguished themselves The Students still under training are pursuing their studies in very satisfactory manner The Council have to announce an important modification in the system of instruction hitherto pursued in King's Col- lege School Before they proceed to explain its nature they desire once
