150 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT The Dressers both In and Out shall be selected from those Students who have passed the examination according to their priority of registration in the Hospital register House Surgeon -He shall be Member of the College of Surgeons and shall have served to the satisfaction of the surgeons the offices of Out and In-Patient Dresser for the full period of six months each He shall previously to his appointment produce certificate of moral character to the satisfaction of the Committee of Management He shall before entering into office pay the sum of 30 for board and lodging during his six months' residence in the Hospital The examination shall be both viva voce and written-the former in Anatomy and the application of Surgical Apparatus the latter in Surgery and Materia Medica including Toxi- cology The most proficient candidate shall be elected The House Surgeon shall visit the surgical wards daily between teu and twelve accompany the surgeon during his visit and prescribe under his direction shall see such patients in the evening as he may think necessary and shall be responsible for the proper management and dressing of all the surgical cases The instruments and surgical apparatus shall be in his charge and he shall make Monthly Report of their condition to the Medical Committee He shall superintend the necessary preparations for and be present at all operations He shall give early notice of all important operations to the medical officers by filling up and transmit- ting the printed forms prepared for that purpose In the absence of the House Surgeon the senior ln-Patient Dresser of the day shall be his substitute Operations -The area of the theatre shall be reserved for the medical officers including those resident the in-patient dressers and such visitors as are specially introduced by the operating surgeon The first row of the theatre shall be re- served for the remaining dressers and the clinical clerks Post-mortem Examinations -The inspection of medical case shall be conducted by the physician's assistant of surgical
