MEDTCAL DEPARTMENT 127 Section II MUSEUMS Registrar of Anatomical Museum-GEORGE J0IINSON Esq Curator of Museums-WILLIAM THOMSON Esq The Museums consist of Collections of objects illustrative of every department of Anatomy Human and Comparative Healthy and Morbid of Materia Medica Chemistry Mine- ralogy Geology Botany and other branches of Natural History also of Collections of Diagrams amounting to up- wards of 000 in number for illustrating the Lectures on these various subjects The Collection of Human Anatomy comprises large number of wet preparations models and casts presented by the late Dr Hooper and Green Esq and has been considerably enriched by additions from the several Professors of the College The Collections of Comparative Anatomy include several excellent skeletons Among the wet preparations are many highly interesting dissections elucidating the minute ana- tomy of insects and other of the lower tribes as well as pre- parations of the various organs of the higher animals The Materia Medica and Chemical Collections are very com- ×™ plete large assortment of drugs having been presented by the Worshipful Company of Apothecaries and by the late Sir Halford Bart The Collections of Mineralogy and Geology are extensive and contain examples of the different formations including selection of the most characteristic fossils belonging to each valuable collection of Fossils consisting chiefly of bones of Mammalia and Reptilia from Perim Island in the Gulf of Cambay presented by Albermarle Bettington Esq of the Bombay Civil Service has recently been added The Botanical Collections comprising Bottler's Indian Herbarium which has been considerably enlarged by addi- tions from Dr Royle and Dr Wallich are especially rich collection of the most curious Fruits and Seeds will be found in the Museum
