12 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT securely holding the required property aud fur other purposes to apply fur an Act of Parliament which has been introduced by the Council of King's College It is proposed that the Members of the Council of the College and the President Vice-Presidents and Governors of the Hospital shall be incorporated its property settled and its charitable purposes and essential connexion with King's College declared and secured in accordance with the fundamental regulations thus carrying out the original intentions of the Founders of the Hospital The attention of the Committee has for several months past been engaged in the careful consideration of the clauses of the proposed Act of Parliament and in revising the Fundamental Regulations and Standing Hides of the Hospital and as soon as the details of these important enactments and rules shall have been sufficiently matured and approved of by the Council and Committee the Committee will without delay lay the result of their labours before the Governors and ask their sanction as to any ulterior proceedings The Committee announced some time ago with deep regret that His Grace the Duke of Sutherland had resigued his Office of President of the Hospital in consequence of ill health It is desirable that the names of the President and Vice-Presidents should appear in the Act of Incorporation and this Committee propose the Earl of Ellesmere for election to the office of President thus vacant The Earl of Ellesmere has been kind and munificent benefactor to the Hospital He has written from Italy to consent at the request of this Com- mittee to place himself at the disposal of the Governors if it should be deemed that he can advantageously serve the Hospital as its President The Committee feel that the high honourable and charitable character of the Earl of Ellesmere would confer advantage and distinction on this or any Institution over which he might preside
