22 ן MEDICAL DEPARTMENT Twelfth Annual Report of King's College Hospital In laying the Twelfth Annual lteport of the affairs of the Hospital before the Court of the Governors of King's College Hospital the Committee 01 Management congratulate the Governors that the reputation' of the Hospital is maintained by the fame of its Professors and the zeal and efficiency of all its Medical Officers and its usefulness extended by the number of Students receiving instruction in its wards and by the extended benefits it confers on the suffering poor The Receipts and Expenditure of the year 1850 appear in the Treasurer's Statement now laid on the table The following table will show the comparative number of Patients relk ved and state of the financial affairs of the Hospital for the years 1841 1819 and 1S50 viz Number of In-Patients Number of Out-Patieuts Receipts Expenditure 1841 255 214 £2 055 18 £3 193 1849 1850 261 301 21 018 21 215 £4 404 10 £4 447 11 £1 560 15 £4 609 The Committee regret that the excess of Liabilities over Assets on 31st December to be provided for out of the income of the following year which ia 1819 amounted to £528 9s Id has in 1850 notwithstanding every regard to economy increased to £690 8s 5d This annual deficit is unsatisfactory and exertions to raise the amount of the deficiency would be thankfully acknowledged by the Committee The Committee beg to record their thanks ox behalf of the Hospital for the following munificent donations during the past year Μ per Win Cotton Esq himself liberal benefactor £200 Thomas Thistlethwayte Esq 200 Rev Hammond risk additional to previous donations amounting to £1650 150 The above sums have been applied towards the expenditure of the year The Committee likewise have to announce the following Legacies viz The late William James Trodsham Esq £200 The late James Bailey Esq 500 which have been invested in Consuls besides Legacy from the late Thos Ansaldo Hewson Esq which has not yet been paid to the Treasurer 500 The number of In-patients cannot be increased in the present building All the Beds 120 in number are always full and there is no room for more
