80 general literature and science Plumptre Prizes for English Verse Prize of Three Guineas -" Charlemagne Prize of Two Guineas -Translation of Homer Od VII 82-133 and of Soph Ed Col 1586-1666 Ed Dind Stephen Prize for an English Essay Comparison of English Literature before and after the great Civil War Literary Union Prize The principal consequences of the taking of Constanti- nople by the Turks 1453 The Exercises must be delivered to the Secretary of King's College before four o'clock on Thursday May 15 1851 and after that time none will be received The Latin Verses must be respectively Hexameters and Elegiacs and the English original Verses must be Heroic No original Exercise must be shorter than 150 lines or longer than 200 lines The author of each Exercise is required to conceal his name and to distinguish his composition by some motto sending in at the same time his name sealed up under cover bearing the same motto Section VIII king's college literary and scientific union This Society has been formed with the sanction of the Principal in order to afford to Students of all Departments of King's College an opportunity of meeting together for discus- sion and the reading of Papers on both literary and scientific subjects Meetings are held weekly during Term and Conversazione is held once Term when collection of articles of vertu engravings and new inventions is provided for the inspection of Members and their friends Gentlemen who have been Members of this Society are eligible as Honorary Members on leaving College
