2S annual report 1819 professional training of Oflieers of Artillery and Engineers while no similar institution except the Military College at Sandhurst exists or is likely to be founded for that far more numerous body for whose professional education it is the object of the present proposal to provide If Her Majesty's Government contemplated either an enlargement of the Royal Military College at Sandhurst or the foundation of additional military colleges the advantages of which should be open to all aspirants to commissions there would be something pre- sumptuous in attempting to engraft Military Class upon an institution like ours which has been hitherto devoted to civil instruction But if no such increased provision 18 likely to be resorted to then it may be well to otfer to parents an opportunity of choosing between the danger of foreign education private and imperfect education at home and an education at College possessed of all the resources of instruction and conducted upon principles harmonizing with our other institutions in Church and State The following is general outline of the course of study which may be thought advisable It has been drawn up by the Principal with the assistance of the College Professors and it is of course subject to such modifications as may be suggested by experience No Student can be admitted under the age of fifteen The full course will last not less than two years II The Military Student will be subject to the same College regulations as other Students in regard to attendance upon lectures terminal and weekly examinations &c He will be bound to be present at the Morning Service in the Chapel and to attend weekly lectures and examinations in suitable subjects of Divinity The religious instruction will aim at imparting thorough knowledge of the contents of the Holy Scriptures as well as due acquaintance with the truths and precepts of our holy religion as held and taught in the Church of England III The secular instruction will embrace- 1st -General Knowledge with more especial atten-
