171 ΤΗ Κ SCHOOL Junior Scholarships in the Department of General Literature and Science and in the Department of the Applied Sciences such candidates however if successful must immediately ma- triculate at the College Scholarship obtained in the School is tenable with one in the College Candidates must give fourteen days' notice to the Head Master previously to the Kxamination No Pupil above eighteen years of age on the 1st of January preceding the Election will be allowed to stand for any Scholarship The next Examinations will take place on Tuesday March 26 and Wednesday March 27 1850 Each Candidate must in person give in his name to the Head Master before three o'clock on Tuesday March 12 after which hour no name will under any circumstances be received The following will be the subjects for Examination FIRST CLASS SCHOLARSHIPS Classical Scholarsh ip- Gospel according to St Matthew in Greek Scripture and Church History Sophocles Electra Herodotus Book II Tacitus Hist IV Compositions Prose and 'erse The Book of Jonah in Hebrew or German at the option of each Candidate Preliminary Examination -Euclid II III Algebra as far as Simple Ecpiations Arithmetic Ma themat teal Sch olarship- Divinity the same subjects as for the Classical Scholarship Algebra Trigonometry Plane Differential Calculus excluding all that relates to functions of two or more variables Statics Preliminary Examination -Homer II Book Virgil En Book
