102 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT believe that Pupils of this College flourish in all parts of the world It was with no small satisfaction that the youthful hero Lieutenant but now Major Edvvardes so distinguished lor his recent services in India was claimed as Pupil of this College and it is equally pleasing to know that that gentleman considers it an honour to append the title of Associate of King's College London" to the distinctions so gallantly won in his profession of arms Whilst participating in the general satisfaction on this subject the Professors in the Medical Department h-tve great pride in stating that many of their former Pupils have in their own peculiar sphere ably assisted their gallant coun- trymen in those brilliant services for which the thanks of the nation have just been voted Before conclude must on my own part and on that of my colleagues tender our grateful thanks to our excellent Principal for the care and attention he has devoted to our Department and for the uniform courtesy and kindness of his demeanour towards us all The Report which have now had the honour to read will trust be considered highly satisfactory as regards the condi- tion of the Medical Department will merely add that in common with all connected with King's College the Medical Professors congratulate themselves on that intimate association with the Church of England which it is their privilege to enjoy in this Institution They lirmly believe that while this edu- cational establishment-now the third in magnitude and im- portance in England-is encouraged and fostered on the principles of that great Christian community of which your Grace is Primate and that whilst the motto Sancte et Sapi- enter stands upon our shield the blessing of Divine Providence will ever attend the etforts of those who conscientiously perforin the temporary duties allotted to them within these walls
