100 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT winter has lectured with Dr Todd as joint Professor of Physi- ology and the Anatomical Rooms have been presided over by Dr Printon who has held the appointment of Demonstrat throughout the Session just concluded This is not the proper occasion to pass any eulogium upon these gentlemen but cannot avoid mentioning that they were chosen with much care and deliberation to these various offices and that at the time of their election it was matter of pride to the authorities that they could conscientiously select from among the various candidates gentlemen who had already been dis- tinguished Pupils of the College King's College Hospital has more than realized all that its most sanguine projectors and supporters could have anticipated Whilst every charity of similar kind already established in the vicinity has aiforded its usual and perhaps m"bre than its usual aid to the afflicted poor our own comparatively youthful Institution-scarce nine years old-already in single year administers relief in its own proper sphere to nearly 20 000 of the poor and destitute As might be expected such large demands upon the limited funds of the Charity entail perpe- tual poverty with which it is difficult to cope Every effort is required to sustain the Hospital in its sphere of usefulness and the Professors feel that deep debt of gratitude is due to the Committee of Governors who so zealously and ably manage the all'airs of that Institution believe that shall best discharge my duty on this oni- sion by referring to our delects as well as to our advantages and hesitate not to state that the present accommodation of our Hospital is not commensurate with the high standing of King's College The present building is most inadequate in all respects for the crowds who seek professional relief and looking upon it solely as charity or in still higher point of view as charity combined with grand scientific and edu- eitional purpose it is alike ill adapted for these objects It is gratifying to think however that ere long change for the better may be expected An adequate site contiguous to the present Hospital has recently been purchased on behalf of
