00 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT complete the purchase of the ground adjoining the Hospital for which they were then in treaty and were consequently uuable to carry out the proposed scheme From that time the want of accommodation in the Hospital has been felt more and more with the constantly increasing number of patients but hitherto no perfectly satisfactory scheme to supply this want has been brought forward The subject has constantly occupied the attention of the Committee of Management and it gives the Professors much satisfaction that the Committee in their Report to which have just referred express their hope that they shall soon be able to "announce plan for the enlargement of the Hospital so as to provide such accommodation as the increasing number of applicants for relief so urgently demands The financial affairs of the Hospital are much more cheering than at the time of the last Report It was then stated that in the preceding year 181 the Expenditure of the Hospital ex- ceeded the Receipts by upu aids of ί'ΛΟΐ In the year 1817 not- withstanding that it was season of great commercial distress the amount of Annual Subscriptions slightly increased and the expenditure exceeded the available income by 40 only while the permanent Fund of the Hospital was increased by two Legacies one of 000 consols left to it by the late Miss Collier the other of 50 left by the late Praed Esq The Professors feel that for these gratifying results the Hospital is mainly indebted to its Committee of Management of whose indefatigable exertions in the cause of the Charity it is impossible to speak in adequate terms and they trust that by the continuance of those exertions and by the com- hined exertions of all the friends of the Hospital and the Col- lege the Hospital will in few years have an assured income commensurate with its expenditure and be source of pride and of lasting satisfaction to the founders and friends of the College The Medical Professors desire to express their thanks to the Principal for the kindness with which he has received all the
