5C applied sciences Physical states of Matter Cohesion and Adhesion Heat and Light Electricity Magnetism Chemical Affinity Laws of Combination Chemistry of the Non-metallic Elements Mann- factures of Oil of Vitriol Aquafortis Ammonia &c The Text-book employed in this part of the Course is Daniell's Introduction to the Study of Chemical Philosophy Second Year Course of Practical Chemistry in which the applica- tions of the Science to the Arts are taught and the Processes involving Chemical Principles in Manufactures Metallurgy and Domestic Economy are explained and illustrated Third Year The Students are admitted to the Course of Chemical Mani- pulation conducted during the Easter Term in the Operating Laboratory by the Demonstrator See page 78 The Class of Experimental and Analytical Che- mis ι η υ is also open to Students of this Department See page 79 IX Geology The Lectures delivered on the subject of Geology are in- tended to have especial referenoe to the important practical applications of that Science to Engineering Mining Architec- ture and Agriculture They are given to Students of the Second and Third Year to the former on Physical Geography and the Elements of Descriptive Geology to the latter on the Practical Application of Geology to Engineering Archi- tecture Agriculture and Mining In order more fully to exemplify the applications of the Science the Professor accom- panies his Class to various Museums in London including the Museum of Economic Geology and also on excursions into the Country in which the actual field-work of the Geo- logist is explained and illustrated There is an Examination at the close of the Easter Term by which the progress of the Students is tested Museum is in course of formation and already possesses many very interesting and instructive series of specimens
