annual report 1847 Occasional Students In the various Classes exclusive of the Medical 48 In the Medical Classes 44 School Pupils 500 Total in the Old Departments 966 To these must be added for the first time the Students in the Theological Department 33 Occasional Students 001 making total of Upwards of One Thousand receiving instruc- Hon within the College From this statement it will be perceived that the numerical strength of each of the Departments making allowance for slight fluctuations will bear comparison with that which was reported last year in which the increase amounted to up- wards of 100 and that one Department that of the Applied Sciences has again received an accession of Students beyond all former precedent The excellence of the system pursued in the Department of General Literature and Science has again been tested in the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge At Oxford three former Students of the College one of them also educated in the School have during the past year obtained the honour of first Class in Classics At Cambridge one was Third Wrangler and another was in the first Class in Classics both of them having passed through the School as well as the Col- lege and another was also amongst the Wranglers Three Students were elected Fellows one of Trinity College one of Queen's College and one of Jesus College Cambridge The conduct of the Students in the Department of the Applied Sciences has been generally satisfactory the pro-
