medical department 73 the difficulties which they have to contend with at the com- mencement of their attendance upon Lectures The following is the plan pursued by the Tutor He arranges his Pupils in classes each class consisting of not more than fifteen Students Each class attends for an hour during the Winter Session three limes week one day being devoted to Chemistry an- other to Materia Mcdica and third to Anatomy and Phvsio- logy Each class is examined viva voce on the subject of the Lectures which they have been attending during the preceding week An opportunity is thus afforded 01' ascertaining the progress which each Student is making of correcting any mis- apprehensions and of explaining any difficulties which may have arisen With this familiar and conversational mode of instruction the Tutor is enabled to combine advice to each Student as to his lan of reading and note-taking and resid- ing within the College he is constantly accessible and may be consulted upon numerous subjects to which the Professors could scarcely be expected to give their time and attention The Tutor's course of instruction is especially calculated to promote and encourage regular and diligent attention upon Lectures as necessary preparation for his examinations Which have strict reference to the Lectures of the preceding week During the Summer Session the same method is pursued With the subject of Botany XIV King's College Hospital This Hospital is situate in the immediate neighbourhood of the College and already accommodates 120 patients Table showing the number of Patients annually relieved In-Patients Out-Patients 1840 1841 1s42 1843 1844 1845 Grand Total 778 050 255 214 290 11 138 131 11 643 11 12 585 160 15 933 s10 63 569 $34 12 428 12 774 13 781 17 093 70 379 The above Returns are exclusive of minor casualties
