medical department 57 III Chemistry Theoretical and Practical An extensive Philosophical Apparatus Mincralogical and Metallurgical Collections valuable Chemical Museum and complete Laboratory are attached to the Chemical Depart- ment The Course is divided into two Parts Part comprises preparatory view of the Forces which concur to the production of Chemical Phenomena with de- scription of the Elementary Bodies and Inorganic Compounds This division of the Course which occupies from the begin- ning of October to the end of December is specially adapted to the Matriculation Examination of the University of London and may be attended separately Part II Current Affinity and its Associated Forces Or- ganic Products and their Metamorphoses and the Chemical Principles of Physiology The Subjects are arranged as follows parti -varieties of force Nature of Matter and of Force-Gravity Homogeneous Attraction and Repulsion-Heterogeneous Attraction-Light and Heat-Electricity-Magnetism-Chemical Affinity Laws of Combination -inorganic chemistry Non-metallic Elements Secondary Compounds Metallic Elements Concurring and Oppos- Primary Compounds ing Forces In this division of the Course are comprised The Extraction Preparation and Properties of the Non- metallic Elements and their Compounds The Manufactures of Oil of Vitriol Aqua Fortis Soda Alum Saltpetre Gunpowder Coal-Gas &c The Extraction and Refining of Metals
