8 annual retort 1S4G College except only the Professorships of Oriental literature and modern languages Provided also that in the admission of Students prefer- ence shall at all times be given to the nominees of Proprietors and Donors That the Council shall have power to accept on behalf of the said College gifts and endowments for promoting par- ticular objects of education or otherwise in aid of the general purposes of the College on such terms and conditions as may be agreed on for the purpose between the Council and the person bestowing such gifts or endowments The following Report on the general state of the College was presented by the Council to the Annual General Court of Governors and Proprietors held on Friday the 2ith of April 1S46 Wis Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Chair The year which has elapsed since the last meeting of the Court of Proprietors has been distinguished by increased prosperity and by measures which appear likely under the continued blessing of Divine Providence to promote the designs of the Founders of King's College and to extend the range of its influence and usefulness in degree which its most sanguine friends could hardly have anticipated The last Term compared with the corresponding period of 1845 exhibits an aggregate increase of upwards of one hun- dred in the number of the Students in the College and of the Pupils in the School In conformity with precedent the name of no Student or Pupil though attending different classes has been reckoned more than once Matriculated Students In the Department of General Literature and Science 122 In the Department of the Applied Sciences 54 In the Medical Department 192
