108 THE SCHOOL Instruction is also given within the College in Hebrew Italian Spanish Fencing and in Singing but these studies do not form part of the regular course The progressive course of classical study is as follows Lower First Class -Latin Grammar Reader and Exercises Upper First Class -Latin Reader &c Greek Grammar and Vocabulary Second Class -Greek Grammar and Μetra Grteea Cornc- liufl Nepos Ovid's Metamorphoses Third Class Upper and Lower -Xenophon Greek Testament Caesar Ovid's Fasti Fourth Class Upper and Lower Homer Xenophon Sallust Virgil Fifth Class -Homer Xenophon Euripides Horace Vir- gil Cicero Livy Lower Sixth Class -Herodotus Sophocles Homer Horace Livy Cicero &c Upper Sixth Class Homer Thuc dides Ilerodoius Plato Demosthenes vEschylus Sophocles Horace Juvenal Tacitus Cicero &c In every class except the Lower First French forms part of the course German is taught to the three senior classes Drawing to the four senior classes Pupil in lower class however may be permitted to give attention to these studies upon special application being made to the Head Master Mathematics Arithmetic and Writing are taught to the whole School Course of Six Elementary Lectures on Chemistry is given annually during the Easter Term to all the School except the two lowest classes by the Professor of Chemistry to King's College Examinations for places in the Class and for promotion take place at the end of every Term Prizes are given to the most deserving in each class at the public Distribution held in July after the Summer Examination New Pupils arc admitted at the commencement of each
